I’ll simply have to say, 2017 was a year! I had my highs and lows. (Enter “churchy” jargon…LOL) But when I look back over my life, God has been good!! Here are my personal top 10 favorite moments of 2017:
I rejoined my church
I left my church for 6 months back in 2016. I was tired, burned out, church hurt, and the list could go on! But I remember saying to myself, “I won’t go into the new year being disobedient.” Truth be told, I didn’t hear God tell me to leave my church, I just wanted out! But Jan 1, 2017, I walked down the aisle and rejoined, tears in my eyes. It was one of the hardest decision I’ve had to make, but today, I can honestly say, it was one of the best! God!
I met my musical crush, and favorite R & B singer ever, Brandy!
Anyone who knows me knows how much I LOVE Brandy! In my head I was Moesha and I played her first album like it was literally going to go out of style! She was in the broadway play, Chicago, and it came to the DC area this summer. I was pressed! Ididn’t care how much it cost and I didn’t even ask anyone to go with me because I didn’t want to wait on anybody! After the show, I was told she meets and greets people in the back lobby. I waited over an hour with about 40 other people. She came out and greeted and took pictures with everyone! I was simply in heaven!
I published my first book
Publishing my first book was on my goals list for two years! I was afraid; worried about what people would think. Was I goodenough to be an author? Would people read my book? But in October, I had a moment, and I simply said out loud to myself, “I will be an author in November.” It was like, saying it out loud, required me to buckle down. I released all fear and trusted God, and I did it! More like, God did it and I got fully participate in His plan and purpose for my life.
I traveled overseas for the first time to Dubai
Because watching the news will make you afraid to leave your house, let alone travel across the seas to the Middle East. But somewhere between graduating college and getting my first real job, I got the travel bug and I simply wanted to see the world! Traveling to Dubai was an amazing experience that I will never forget. I look forward to traveling more! Thailand in 2018!
I met new family while on vacation in Chicago
I traveled to Chicago this summer for the “Taste of Chicago” food festival. But while there, I happened to talk to my dad who was in the city for a funeral for one of our family members, along with my aunt. I’m not too familiar with my dad’s side of the family, so I was all too excited to meet new family members! It was so amazing! They were so welcoming and kind! My trip to Chicago was probably one of the best vacations I had in a long time.
I hosted my frist Brunch & Vision in February
Back in December of 2016, Brunch & Vision was just a cute name to give a get together at my house so we could brunch and make vision boards. But going into 2017, I decided to open it up to others and actually charge a small fee! I was too nervous! But now I’ve hosted 5 events and they all have been amazing! God has blew my mind each time with how he connects me with people and blesses me in ways I couldn’t imagine. 2018 is going to be even greater!
I celebrated my 10 year college reunion
I could not believe that I had been out of college for 10 years! Truth be told, I wasn’t the most social or knew everyone. I was kind of a loner and quiet, so I was reluctant about going to my reunion. Was anybody going to remember me? But I got up the nerve
and had a friend come with me for moral support, and I had a ball! I got to see so many people I hadn’t seen in a long time and catch up! It was a blessing and I’m grateful for my time at THE Howard University. The real HU!! You Know!
I got to see the legend, Babyface, in concert for the first time
So after Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston died, I began to make a bucket list of entertainers I wanted to see before they left this world. Babyface was on the top of the list, although I feel like he might live forever! I mean, he doesn’t age much at all! His concert was phenomenal and I was educated on his song writing category that included some of my absolute favorites! He could have sang all night to me!
I went back to the “creamy crack” after being natural for over 10 years
Yep! I did it! I went back to a perm after over ten years of being natural. I simply needed a change. Whoever said natural hair was easier, lied!! Between the millions of products to choose from, to keeping it moisturized, trimmed, not getting matted, combing through it, wearing protective styles, I was tired! I needed to relax and so did my hair. I can’t say that I don’t miss my natural hair because permed hair has it’s challenges too. I’m still trying to remember not to scratch before perming!! But I’m content, for now.
I brought in my birthday in the beautiful island of Aruba
I love to travel on my birthday and Aruba had been on my list for a while. It also happened to be carnival season too! I had a ball bringing in 32 on the “Happy Island.”
2017 was good to me. I learned a lot about myself, and about God! Through the good and the bad, I made it! I’m stronger because of it and I’ll only look back to remember, but never regret! I’m pressing forward toward 2018 and I can’t wait to see what this year brings.
